Helped Suicide In 1997, Oregon turned into the main state permitting lawful doctor helped self destruction (PAS). In spite of the fact that doctor helped self destruction has been lawful in Oregon for a long time, it remains exceptionally questionable. PAS is the point at which a specialist endorses their patient to medicine which would execute them. Patients must pass certain prerequisites so as to demand a solution for deadly prescription. The patient must be 18 years or more seasoned, an inhabitant of Oregon, ready to settle on medicinal services choices, and determined to have a terminal sickness that would prompt passing inside a half year. In the wake of meeting these necessities patients can demand a medicine for deadly prescription from an authorized Oregon doctor. To get a remedy for deadly drug, the accompanying advances must be finished: â⬠¢Ã à à à à The understanding must make two oral solicitations to their doctor, isolated by at any rate 15 days. â⬠¢Ã à à à à The quiet should give a composed solicitation to their doctor, marked with two observers present. â⬠¢Ã à à à à The specialist who endorses the patient and another doctor must affirm the finding and guess. â⬠¢Ã à à à à If either doctor accepts the patient's judgment is weakened by a mental or mental issue, the patient must take a mental assessment. â⬠¢Ã à à à à The doctor must illuminate the patient regarding options in contrast to helped self destruction. For example, comfort care, medical clinic care, and agony the board. During 1998, 1999 and 2000, roughly 16, 27, and 27 patients utilized PAS. Patients who kicked the bucket by PAS were more taught than different Oregonians who didn't decide to end it all and had comparative ailments. All the meds endorsed are barbiturates. A doctor or any other person can not legitimately control prescription to take another's life. In 2001, 44 specialists recommended 33 patients to a prescription that would take their life. In correlation, 39 remedies were written in 2000, 33 of every 1999 and 24 of every 1998. In spite of the fact that the quantity of medicines composed for doctor helped self destruction has expanded in the previous four years, the quantity of sick patients taking deadly prescription has remained little with under 1/10 of one percent of Oregonians passing on by doctor helped self destruction. à à à à à The reason I picked this subject is on the grounds that I thought it was intriguing and furthermore dubious. I think that its intriguing that Oregon is the main express that has doctor helped self destruction. I feel unequivocally that if an individual was in so much agony where they needed to end it all, at that point it ought to be permitted. I additionally concur with the necessities a patient needs to meet before being conceded the solution.

From Collecting to Connecting A New Paradigm for Education - Focus
From Collecting to Connecting A New Paradigm for Education - Focus This is a guest post by Professor Toni Krasnic, author of How to Study with Mind Maps. Toni is an author, mind mapper, teacher, and student success coach. In this article, he discusses Seth Godins essay collection Stop Stealing Dreams and how mind maps can help students go from simply collecting dots to connecting dots. Stop Stealing Dreams (What Is School For?) In March 2012, Seth Godin published Stop Stealing Dreams, a provocative collection of 132 essays on improving the current education system. It struck a chord with millions of people who read the manifesto, including me. One concept that struck me in particular was the importance of âconnecting.â Seth used it 57 times in the manifesto and had it in 3 headings. Section 64, reprinted below, hit home in particular and is the inspiration for this post. 64. Connecting the dots vs. collecting the dots The industrial model of school is organized around exposing students to ever increasing amounts of stuff and then testing them on it. Collecting dots. Almost none of it is spent in teaching them the skills necessary to connect dots. The magic of connecting dots is that once you learn the techniques, the dots can change but youâll still be good at connecting them. Itâs also helpful to refer back to Section 22, where Seth talks about the connection revolution and emphasizes that we live in an âera that marks the end of the industrial age and the beginning of something new is ultimately about connection.â In short, Seth is arguing that our system of schooling will be forever changed by the newly emerged connection economy. Self-Responsibility and Education Learning is not done to you. Learning is something you choose to do. â"Seth Godin Weâve been at school redesign and reform for many years now, and spent millions of dollars on experimenting with different solutions. Surely, many more years and dollars will be spent. However, from a learnerâs perspective, the ultimate responsibility for learning still falls within students. Teachers alone cannot âproduceâ learning and success in students. Students need to accept that, ultimately, they are responsible for their own learning and success, and that they must take steps to learn how to learn and develop the skills they need to thrive in todayâs complex world. The most important piece is that the learners become self-learners, capable of connecting the bits and connecting with people to make learning personally meaningful. Connecting Dots with Mind Maps The magic of connecting dots is that once you learn the techniques, the dots can change but youâll still be good at connecting them. â" Seth Godin Mind mapping is a visual tool that helps us visualize connections between concepts (dots). A mind map is created by extending concepts and associations from a central theme in all directions. Itâs like a tree, with branches extending all around. Existing associations trigger new associations and help integrate new concepts within a map, similar to what we do with concepts in our minds. Once we trigger our brain to look for associations, thereâs no going back. Our brain will be forever conditioned to connect different ideas into a whole and extend the whole into yet unknown domains. Mind mapping is a tool to make this thinking visible. This ability to converge and diverge our thinking, via connections between dots, to create meaning and create new ideas, respectively, is what makes mind maps such a powerful thinking tool. Connecting People with Mind Maps Our chaotic world is open to the work of passionate individuals, intent on carving their own paths. â" Seth Godin To connect dots, we must first discover the dots. We come across new concepts via formal connections (e.g., school) and numerous informal connections (real-world contacts and the Internet). The network of these connections, both formal and informal, is collectively called a Personal Learning Network (PLN). PLNs are created by individual learners to meet learnersâ specific needs and extend learning connections to other learners around the globe who share similar interests. Rhetorical Analysis Of In Cold Blood - 1590 Words
The book In Cold Blood is a nonfiction book about the murder of the Clutter family. Taking place back in the 1959s, Truman Capote writes about the events leading up to the murders, when the murders took place, and the aftermath. He tells the story in such a descriptive manner, that it feels like we were there when it happened. The purpose of writing like that is so we can know everyoneââ¬â¢s side of the story, even people you wouldnââ¬â¢t ordinarily think of. He helps us feel like we were there when it happened by effectively and efficiently using the rhetorical strategies. The rhetorical strategies I feel were most important to the story were pathos, logos, and the tone. The way Capote uses these rhetorical strategies and literary devices isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These emotions could go one of two ways- the first would be to feel pity for his parents, while seeing Dick in a slightly more pitiful light, rather than not even seeing him as human. Or it go go the second wa y, you feel pity for his parents, and begin to hate Dick even more for, not only what he did to the Clutter family, but also what he did to his parents. He not only ruined the Clutter familyââ¬â¢s lives, he also ruined his life, his parentsââ¬â¢ life, and even Perryââ¬â¢s life, even though he willingly participated in the murder. Capoteââ¬â¢s use of pathos really humanizes the Clutter family murders, but also makes them more pitiful. They had a chance at a good life, Dickââ¬â¢s father even said that he used to be a good kid, but they threw it all away, robbing and killing an innocent family. Capote does a very good job of depicting Dick and Perry, creating a good balance between despicable and pitiful, while sharing their side of the story in a very accurate, yet interesting, way. The second most important rhetorical strategy Capote used is logos. Many people probably think that logos is the most important rhetorical strategy- but I disagree. You need logos to accurat ely tell all sides of the story, yes, but you need pathos to make it truly worth reading, in my opinion. Pathos is what makes it interesting, it draws out your emotions, leaves you hanging on every word, making you never want to put down the book. Logos is extremely important,Show MoreRelatedRhetorical Analysis Of In Cold Blood1782 Words à |à 8 PagesIn Cold Blood Rhetorical Analysis Essay In Truman Capoteââ¬â¢s captivating nonfiction, In Cold Blood, Capote ventures through the journey and lives of both the killed and the killers all while analyzing the point in which they crossed paths. An Analysis of Power and Violence in Literature Essay
An Analysis of Power and Violence in Literature Violence and power are both significant sources of conflict in the world we currently live in. Large animals exert their power over smaller ones through violence and through their consumption. In this example, we find the food chain. Humankind exerts their power through violence and power in a similar way, creating a hierarchy of power. Although not all violence is physical, it is still used to obtain control of another person or situation. Hannah Arendt writes in her book ââ¬ËOn Violenceââ¬â¢ ââ¬Å"In the same vein he regarded the state as an instrument of violence in the command of the ruling class; but the actual power of the ruling class did not consist of or rely on violenceâ⬠(11). When you sitâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This ties into Hannah Arendtââ¬â¢s passage on violence because of the way the women seize power at the assembly. The women are clearly the ruling class when it comes to this play, and with accord ance to Arendtââ¬â¢s passage, do not use physical or spoken violence to obtain the control over Athens. The women obtain authority by attending the assembly, and they rule with authority, as opposed to violence, as well. The women strive to change laws about common property and ownership. In their acquisition of Athensââ¬â¢ governmental control, they change the laws so that all land, property, money, food, and sexual relations are shared among all those living in Athens. The women hope, that through their democratic influence, they will be able to abolish all inequalities, violence, and thievery. By withholding food privileges for wrong-doings, they aim to eliminate all crime from Athens. Although there is no mention of violent governmental control before the women, there is still no evidence of violent rule in their regime. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËA Tempestââ¬â¢ and Aimà © Cà ©saireââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËA Tempestââ¬â¢ also deal with matters of violence and control, but in a different way from ââ¬ËThe Assembly Womenââ¬â¢. In both versions of A/The Tempest, power is held and abused by the governing force. While explaining the effects of the racial barriers that exist in communities, he appeals to the American people. Obama does this by addressing the value that they place on being strong as a nation. The former senator starts off his historic speech with a quote from the preamble to the United States Constitution. ââ¬Å"We the people, in order to form a more perfect union. â⬠This introductory quote set the pace for an inspiring and motivational atmosphere. He often reminds listeners of the struggle that between is occurring between people of different race and social class. Obama then goes on to encourage his listeners to come together and continue to work towards achieving those goals set out by the founding fathers, forming a more perfect union. When Obama speaks about race, he utilizes very personal situations to gain empathy from his followers. He speaks about his own family, and how race has played a part in their lives. Born the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, Obama tells of how he was brought up in a very poor neighborhood but still managed to attend some of the best schools in the country. He acknowledges his multiracial family and declares that in any other country his story would never have been possible. Obama then goes on to speak about the controversy behind his relationship with the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Wright had come under criticism for comments he made in a sermon. These comments were deemed unpatriotic, and because of his relationship with the Reverend Obama was also criticized. Obama explains that while he does not agree or support all of Wrightââ¬â¢s political and social opinions, he has been a good friend for over twenty years. He describes the church experience, and how the experience there has made him a firm believer in unity. When Obama speaks of the church community, he says that ââ¬Å"these people are a part of me, and they are a part of America, the country that I love. â⬠When Obama speaks about the relationship between the races, he talks about the disparity between the black and white race. The black person who gave up on their American dream after suffering from discrimination, ending up so worried about one small injustice to see the bigger picture. Or the white person, who has worked hard for the things they have only to be called privileged. These are the people who hear of a black person receiving a free ride because of their race and develop resentment toward African Americans. Obama challenges everyone to work together to overcome all of the racial wrongs of the past. He asks that those same black people accepting the past burdens without making them present burdens. Instead Obama asks that the African American unite with all others and fight for the equal treatment of all races. And to the white community, Obama asks for a more empathetic approach. He says that whites should acknowledge that discrimination has been and still is a real thing in society for the African Americans. Obama asks the white community to take actions necessary to see to it that all races have equality and a fair chance at obtaining the American dream

Mark Twain as a Realist Writer
Mark Twain as a Realist Writer Considered one of the great American Realistà writers, Mark Twain is not only celebrated for the stories he tells but also the way in which he tells them, with an unmatched ear for the Englishà language and sensitivity to the diction of the common man.à To flesh out his stories, Twain also drew heavily on his personal experiences, most notably his work as a riverboat captain on the Mississippi, and never shied from portraying everyday issues in starkly honest terms.à Dead-On Dialects Twain was a master of conveying the local vernacular in his writing.à Read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, for example, and youll immediately hear the distinctive Southern dialect of that region.à For example, when Huck Finn attempts to help Jim, a slave, escape to freedom by paddling a canoe down the Mississippi, Jimà thanksà Huck profusely: Huck yous deà besà fren Jims ever had:à enà yous deà onlyà fren olde Jims got now. Later in the story, in chapter 19, Huck hides while he witnesses deadly violence between two feuding families:à I staid in the tree till it begun to get ââ¬â¹dard, afraid to come down. Sometimes I heard guns away off in the woods; and twice I seen little gangs of men gallop past the log-store with guns; so I reckoned the trouble was still agoing on. On the other hand, the language in Twains short story The Celebratedà Jumping Frog of Calaveras County reflects bothà the narrators upscale Eastern Seaboard roots and the local vernacular of his interview subject, Simon Wheeler. Here, the narrator describes his initial encounter with Wheeler: I found Simon Wheeler dozing comfortably by the bar-room stove of the old, dilapidated tavern in the ancient mining camp of Angels, and I noticed that he was fat and bald-headed, and had an expression of winning gentleness and simplicity upon his tranquil countenance. He roused up and gave me good-day. And here is Wheeler describing a local dog celebrated for his fighting spirit: And he had a little small bull pup, that to look at him youd think he wans worth a cent, but to set around and look ornery, and lay for a chance to steal something. But as soon as money was up on him, he was a different dog; his underjawd begin to stick out like the focastle of a steamboat, and his teeth would uncover, and shine savage like the furnaces. A River Runs Through It Twain became a riverboat cub- or trainee- in 1857 when he was still known as Samuel Clemens. Two years later, he earned his full pilots license. As he learned to navigate the Mississippi, Twain became very familiar with the language of the river. Indeed, he adopted his famous pen name from his river experience. Mark Twain- meaning two fathoms- was a navigational term used on the Mississippi. All of the adventures- and there were many- that Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn experienced on the Mighty Mississippi relate directly to Twains own experiences. Tales of Abuse And while Twain is rightly famous for his humor, he was also unflinching in his portrayal of abuses of power. For instance,à A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court,à while absurd, remains a biting political commentary. And for all his pluck, Huckleberry Finn is still an abused and neglected 13-year-old boy, whose father is a mean drunk. We see this world from Hucks point of view as he attempts to cope with his environment and deal with the circumstances into which he is thrown. Along the way, Twain explodes social conventions and depicts the hypocrisy of civilized society. No doubt Twain had a terrific knack for story construction. But it was his flesh and blood characters- the way they spoke, the way they interacted with their surroundings, and the honest descriptions of their experiences- that brought hisà stories to life.

The Very First Mickey Mouse Cartoons
The Very First Mickey Mouse Cartoons In April 1928, cartoonist/animator Walt Disney had just had his heart broken when his distributor stole his popular character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, from him. On the long, depressing train ride home from getting this news, Disney drew a new character- a mouse with round ears and a big smile. A few months later, the new, talking Mickey Mouse was first shown to the world in the cartoon Steamboat Willie. Since that first appearance, Mickey Mouse has become the most recognizable cartoon character in the world. It All Started With an Unlucky Rabbit During the silent film era of the 1920s, Charles Mintz, Walt Disneyââ¬â¢s cartoon distributor, asked Disney to come up with a cartoon that would rival the popular Felix the Cat cartoon series that played before silent motion pictures in movie theaters. Mintz came up with the name ââ¬Å"Oswald the Lucky Rabbitâ⬠and Disney created the mischievous black and white character with straight, long ears. Disney and his artist employee Ubbe Iwerks made 26 Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoons in 1927. With the series now a hit, costs rose increasingly higher as Disney wanted to make the cartoons better. Disney and his wife, Lillian, took a train trip to New York in 1928 to renegotiate a higher budget from Mintz. Mintz, however, informed Disney that he owned the character and that he had lured most of Disneyââ¬â¢s animators to come draw for him. Learning a depressing lesson, Disney boarded the train back to California. On the long trip home, Disney sketched a black and white mouse character with big round ears and a long skinny tail and named him Mortimer Mouse. Lillian suggested the livelier name of Mickey Mouse. As soon as he reached Los Angeles, Disney immediately copyrighted Mickey Mouse (as he would all the characters he would later create). Disney and his loyal artist employee, Ubbe Iwerks, created new cartoons with Mickey Mouse as the adventurous star, including Plane Crazy (1928) and The Gallopinââ¬â¢ Gaucho (1928). But Disney had trouble finding a distributor. First Sound Cartoon When sound became the latest in film technology in 1928, Walt Disney researched several New York film companies in the hopes of recording his cartoons with sound to make them stand out. He struck a deal with Pat Powers of Powers Cinephone System, a company that offered the novelty of sound with film. While Powers added sound effects and music to the cartoon, Walt Disney was the voice of Mickey Mouse. Pat Powers became Disneyââ¬â¢s distributor and on November 18, 1928, Steamboat Willie (the worldââ¬â¢s first sound cartoon) opened at the Colony Theater in New York. Disney himself did all the character voices in the seven-minute-long film. Receiving rave reviews, audiences everywhere adored Mickey Mouse along with his girlfriend Minnie Mouse, who also made her first appearance in Steamboat Willie. (By the way, November 18, 1928 is considered the official birthday of Mickey Mouse.) The first two cartoons, Plane Crazy (1928) and The Gallopinââ¬â¢Gaucho (1928), were then released with sound, with more cartoons on the way with additional characters, including Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. On January 13, 1930, the first Mickey Mouse comic strip appeared in newspapers around the country. Mickey Mouse Legacy While Mickey Mouse gained the popularity of fan clubs, toys, and worldwide fame, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit faded into obscurity after 1943. As the Walt Disney Company grew over the decades into a mega-entertainment empire, including feature-length motion pictures, television stations, resorts and theme parks, Mickey Mouse remains the icon of the company as well as the most recognizable trademark in the world. In 2006, the Walt Disney Company acquired the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Hoggy's Restaurant Experience Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Hoggy's Restaurant Experience - Essay Example I was disappointed and frustrated by a recent experience at Hoggyââ¬â¢s Restaurant. I had very high expectations.à Numerous visits to the restaurant with family and friends led me to anticipate that the food would be served at the right temperature, that it would be tasty and delicious, the service would be prompt and attentive, and the restaurant would be clean and organized.à I had never had a negative experience with this restaurant chain, or with this particular location.à My most recent visit changed their winning streak, however.à The experience was poor, and I am unlikely to return to this location.A friend and I visited the restaurant over lunch.à We were not in a rush and were looking forward to a pleasant meal in great company.à Upon entering the restaurant, we noted that it took several minutes before someone greeted us and led us to a table.à On past visits, the hostess greeted us within a minute, so this was a surprise.à In fact, it took so lon g that we joked that they had closed the restaurant and had forgotten to lock the door. After the hostess led us to a table and provided us with a menu, we waited another five minutes before the waitress visited our table and took our beverage order.à This was frustrating, because we had picked a time to visit after the standard lunch rush time, and the restaurant was not busy.We received our drinks, gave the waitress our order, and visited with each other until the waitress returned with our food.à She placed the plates in front of us and indicated that she would get drink refills for us.à My friend started eating, but as soon as I picked up my sandwich, I noticed a long, black hair lying across the top of it.Ã

Global trends affecting the retail pharmacy industry in the next 5-7 Essay
Global trends affecting the retail pharmacy industry in the next 5-7 years - Essay Example Online merchants have been growing in number as well. The retail pharmacy industry must take advantage of websites in order to keep up with the technology. These two trends will impact the retail pharmacy industry within the next five to seven years. The first trend of more one on one consultation is due to the second trend of more patients. Doctors are becoming overwhelmed by the field of geriatrics. More and more elderly patients are seeking medical care, and thus prescriptions and other over the counter medicine. Doctors are seeing as many patients possible, leaving the prescription counseling to the retail pharmacy industry. Since doctors are busy, appointments take a month or more to receive. Thus elderly patients are coming to pharmacists with questions on routine nutrition, over the counter medicines, and common illnesses. The retail pharmacy industry is becoming the first stop for patients, instead of the doctorââ¬â¢s office. Thus more one on one consultation would be routinely done daily. If the rise in consultations continues, the need for more retail pharmacy industry consultants and pharmacists will also rise. This would mean more training for retail pharmacy industry jobs. That would create a need for teachers, curriculum, and students relating to the retail pharmacy industry. It would also be necessary to recruit individuals interested in this type of work field. A lack of personnel in the retail pharmacy industry could hurt the industry. In order to take advantage of the billion-trillion dollar need, personnel must be interested and trained for the retail pharmacy industry. Online services are showing up for most major retail pharmacies. These online services can be convenient. Doctors can place prescriptions on secure websites. Customers can transfer existing prescriptions. Consultants are made available online. This is through live consultants and

The Consequences Of Melting Polar Ice Caps Environmental Sciences Essay
The Consequences Of Melting Polar Ice Caps Environmental Sciences Essay The polar ice caps that we see today have taken centuries to form and they ve been melting from time to time in order to form lakes and rivers that are essential not only for animal and plant life, but for humans as well all over the world. Furthermore, as precipitation takes its toll the ice caps that melt gets replaced by fresh snow that is later on over time converted to ice. Thus it is safe to say that the melting of the polar ice caps is a normal occurrence, however it becomes a problem when the ice caps melt at a fast rate and turning into water faster and in more quantity than the fresh snow replacing it. This is the current situation of most of today s polar ice caps all over the world. As they reduce in size, stability, and strength they eventually break off and melt away thereby increasing sea levels among other things. The major consequences of melting polar ice caps can be said in the following order below: 1. Global Warming. We are currently experiencing warmer temperatures all over the world today as temperatures have gone high, and global warming is becoming more alarming day by day. This rise in temperature helps polar ice caps melt faster than it should be. Ice caps have even disappeared in certain parts of the world due to this. The melting of the polar ice caps increases global warming because ice glaciers deflects or bounces off about 80% heat from the sun and retain or absorb about 20% of it. However, when sunlight falls on earth, only 20% of the heat is deflected and 80% is absorbed. This in turn increases sea water temperatures, melting ice faster causing the earth to get warmer. 2. Shortage of Fresh Water. Earth looks sort of enveloped and covered with water when seen from space which causes people to think that we are self-sufficient with water. However, this is just the opposite as most of the water that we can see from space in pictures is just salt water that is not good for human use and only 2% of it is considered as freshwater good enough for human use in which 70% of it comes from ice caps and glaciers. People in certain parts of the world depend on this fresh source of water for not only drinking but for agricultural purposes as well. There are certain areas around the Himalayas that are currently in crisis due to this especially in dry months as populations rise. 3. Reduced Agricultural Output. To begin with, for the areas where agriculture mainly depends on rain, they won t be effected by melting of the ice caps. However these areas are few around the world. Areas that are affected are those that depend on fresh water coming from ice caps and glaciers. When ice caps keep on melting there will be lesser fresh water for agriculture which will make the lands dry and not suitable for agriculture thus reduce the total output leading to a shortage in harvest. 4. Excessive Flooding. There are ice caps all over the world and it should be understood that the difference between polar ice caps and ice caps is that the later are present also on lands. Melting of these ice caps causes excessive flooding which is very dangerous for the people and animals that are living in those areas as it would destroy homes, habitats, and lives. Furthermore, polar ice caps and ice glaciers on higher altitudes melt faster which form new lakes and raise river water levels as well causing floods. This is also a cause of concern as when these river water levels rise and lakes burst, they lead to major disasters destroying everything crossing its path. 5. Rise In Sea Level. As the polar ice caps melt at a faster rate, the more the sea levels rise. The consequences of this will be of dire magnitude and people living in coastal regions all over the world will have to relocate and live somewhere else, thereby decreasing amount of living space, due to soil erosion, flooding, and their fresh water being contaminated with salt water of the sea. It has been estimated that the sea level rising 1mm to 2mm per year. It has also been estimated that in the U.S there will be a 3-foot rise in sea level in the Gulf coast which will lead to the deluge of more tha 22,000 square miles of land. 6. Habitat Loss. There are plenty of animals, birds, and even fishes that depend on the polar ice caps and its temperatures for their survival. There are fishes depend on food such as phytoplankton and sea-plants that are underwater near the ice caps and there are birds such as snow owls that depend on these fishes near the ice caps and animals and humans who depend on certain birds for food. They are all connected. As sea water temperatures get warmer and sea levels rise, the sea plants in which these fishes feed off n live on will eventually die out n disappear and this in turn will lead to the increase in the death toll of fishes and birds will reduce due to lack of fishes to feed on, making survival for birds very difficult. Thus disturbing the whole ecosystem. Furhtermore the reduction of fishes has an impact on the polar bear as they have much less to feed on forcing them to take long journeys away from their habitat which also forces to eat what they don t normally eat. This journey is a risky one as some of the polar bear don t make it alive an die on the way as there are many threats as starvation and threats underwater such as killer whales and sharks. Seals, whales, and walruses are also adapting to this change to migrating patters which makes hunting for them by natives very difficult thus leaving the natives without food as well. In addition to the melting of the ice caps, blocks of ice are breaking off forcing seals to give bith underwater which causes many of the pups to die by drowning. Also separation occurs due to breaking of the ice at young ages leading to higher mortality rates. 7. Coral Reefs Will Vanish. Coral reefs need sunlight for photosynthesis not only for their own survival but also for the survival of the various types of fishes that depend on it. As sea levels rise higher making waters deeper, the presence of sunlight under water becomes lesser as the sunlight becomes harder to reach the coral reefs. This in turn corrupts the quality of corals and may even kill them. Certain fishes won t survive as they depend on the reefs for food and this will later have an impact on people who depend on fish for survival. 8. Recontamination Of Earth. Most people today have never even heard DDT and such pesticides as they were banned all over the world years ago. These substances were airborne and eventually wounded up in cooler areas near the ice caps and polar ice caps. Unfortunately the story doesn t end there as most of these harmful airborne chemicals got trapped inside the polar ice caps and glaciers, which later chunks of ice melt and break off, the chemicals, are then released back into the environment in seas, rivers, and lakes containing glaciers. 9. Melting Of The Polar Ice Caps Affects The Whole World. The melting of the polar ice caps is not only limited to specific parts of the world. The rapid melting of the ice is a global concern and its consequences affect the whole world in every continent, especially when it comes to global warming. Conclusion In conclusion, the consequences of the melting polar ice caps are not only limited to specific areas of the world but rather are a global consequence and one that has many concerns and should be dealt with immediately because the polar ice caps are still melting and sea levels are rising, effecting us all over the world as mentioned above. Unfortunately nothing can be done about the rapid melting of the polar ice caps at the moment but global warming is a major factor in the rapid decrease of the ice caps and everyone should contribute to reduce global warming as a first step.

Aristotle s Ethics Of Happiness - 1515 Words
Aubrey Swaters 1. According to Aristotleââ¬â¢s Nichomachean Ethics, happiness is known as eudaimonia, and is an Intrinsic Good. For Aristotle, humans reach their supreme goal of eudaimonia through intellectual and moral virtues. When one can habitually and favorably find the mean between extreme actions in any situation, moral virtue is reached. Intellectual virtue is reached through phronesis, or when an individual uses his or her mind to choose a ââ¬Å"rightâ⬠decision. The cultivation of habit is necessary for Aristotle because when choosing the situational mean is deep-rooted inside of an individual, he or she will always be emotionally pleased with doing the right thing. This deep-rooted habit forms its foundation during childhood, via rules and constant guidance from adults. If one choses the mean when he or she would rather act otherwise, choosing the mean is not yet a habit, thus eudemonia has not been reached. Aristotle says that this behavior is essentially pretending; like an ac tor wearing a mask. It does not matter how long or hard an individual practices the mean of extremes, if one does not find pleasure in doing what is right, the supreme goal has not yet been met. 2. Aristotleââ¬â¢s doctrine of the mean instructs individuals to habitually choose the most neutral action in any given situation. Generosity is one example of choosing a mean between two extremes that Aristotle uses. In his book, he uses the example of giving and taking money. Piagetââ¬â¢s Stage Theory in my eyes was four key stages of development marked by shifts in how they understand the world. To me Piagetââ¬â¢s theories had a major impact on the theory and practice of education. Her first theory was ââ¬Å"A focus on the process of childrenââ¬â¢s thinking, not just its products. In addition to checking the correctness of childrenââ¬â¢s answers, teachers must understand the processes children use to get to the answer. Appropriate learning experiences build on childrenââ¬â¢s current level of cognitive functioning, and only when teachers appreciate childrenââ¬â¢s methods of arriving at particular conclusions are they in a position to provide such experiences.â⬠In her first theory she basically talks about how a kids learning experienceâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Piaget referred to the question ââ¬Å"How can we speed up development?â⬠as ââ¬Å"the American question.â⬠Among the many countries he visited, psychologists and educators in the United States seemed most interested in what techniques could be used to accelerate childrenââ¬â¢s progress through the stages. Piagetian-based educational programs accept his firm belief tha t premature teaching could be worse than no teaching at all, because it leads to superficial acceptance of adult formulas rather than true cognitive understanding.â⬠In this theory I think she is talking about child development speed and what kind of techniques can be used to speed up the childââ¬â¢s progress throughout the stages. And last but not least the fourth says ââ¬Å"Acceptance of individual differences in developmental progress. Piagetââ¬â¢s theory assumes that all children go through the same developmental sequence but that they do so at different rates. Therefore, teachers must make a special effort to arrange classroom activities for individuals and small groups of children rather than for the total class group. In addition, because individual differences are expected, assessment of childrenââ¬â¢s educational progress should be made in terms of each childââ¬â¢s own previous course of development, notShow MoreRelatedMy Virtual Child Program : Physical, Social, Emotional, And Cognitive Development1528 Words à |à 7 PagesMy Virtual Child program basically covers physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development at several age levels. Marxist Criticism Free Essays
Marxist criticism is a type of criticism in which literary works are viewed as the product of work and whose practitioners emphasize the role of class and ideology as they reflect, propagate, and even challenge the prevailing social order. Rather than viewing texts as repositories for hidden meanings, Marxist critics view texts as material products to be understood in broadly historical terms. In short, literary works are viewed as a product of work (and hence of the realm of production and consumption we call economics). We will write a custom essay sample on Marxist Criticism or any similar topic only for you Order Now INTRODUCTION Based on the socialist and dialectical theories of Karl Marx, Marxist criticism views literary works as reflections of the social institutions out of which they are born. According to Marxists, even literature itself is a social institution and has a specific ideological function, based on the background and ideology of the author. In essence, Marxists believe that a work of literature is not a result of divine inspiration or pure artistic endeavor, but that it arises out of the economic and ideological circumstances surrounding its creation. For Marxist critics, works of literature often mirror the creatorââ¬â¢s own place in society, and they interpret most texts in relation to their relevance regarding issues of class struggle as depicted in a work of fiction. Although Marx did not write extensively on literature and its place in society, he did detail the relationship between economic determinism and the social superstructure in various texts, including Zur Kritik der Politischen Okonomie (1859), where he stated: ââ¬Å"The mode of production of material life determines altogether the social, political, and intellectual life process. It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but on the contrary their social being, that determines their consciousness. â⬠Thus, although he did not expound in detail on the connections between literature and society, it is agreed among most scholars that Marx did view the relationship between literary activity and the economic center of society as an interactive process Marxism says that people in the world are organized into different groups or classes based on their relationship to how things are made. Most people are called ââ¬Å"workersâ⬠because they work in factories or offices or farms for money. They belong to the ââ¬Å"working classâ⬠(or ââ¬Å"proletariatâ⬠). Another group, who are not as big as the working class are ââ¬Å"capitalistsâ⬠, because they own the factories, land and buildings that the workers have to work in and also own all of the tools the workers have to use. Marx calls Capitalists the ââ¬Å"Ruling Classâ⬠because they live off of the work of all the workers. He also says that the Capitalists own the government, army and courts. In Marxist views, Capital is the ââ¬Å"means of productionâ⬠and money which the Capitalist can invest in different places of business so that they can ââ¬Å"profitâ⬠or gain more Capital. Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong (chronic) disease in which there are high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. See also: Diabetes Gestational diabetes Type 2 diabetes Causes Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age. However, it is most often diagnosed in children, adolescents, or young adults. Insulin is a hormone produced by special cells, called beta cells, in the pancreas. The pancreas is found behind your stomach. Insulin is needed to move blood sugar (glucose) into cells, where it is stored and later used for energy. In type 1 diabetes, beta cells produce little or no insulin. Without enough insulin, glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead of going into the cells. The body is unable to use this glucose for energy. This leads to the symptoms of type 1 diabetes. The exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. Most likely it is anà autoimmune disorder. Social Media and How It Effects Interpersonal Relationships free essay sample
Social networking sites have increased their range of access by becoming known worldwide and and fall of popular social networks, their range of access, and how SNSââ¬â¢s became mainstream. (Boyd) Social media reduces the importance of interpersonal relationships by reducing the frequency of physical communications. Physical communications are an important part of modern culture because they help to develop social mannerisms and strengthen the ability to maintain social relationships. This generations youth have also begun to play a much larger part in their own learning experience. Todayââ¬â¢s youth have grown up surrounded by advancing technology and that has changed the way they interact with each other and adults. They can have constant access to contact their friends via texting, and mobile phones as well in public ways like Facebook and Twitter. Youth have begun pressing into their interests by searching on Google and ââ¬Å"lurkingâ⬠in chat rooms. This has lead to a major increase in self-guided and peer-based learning (Ito). We will write a custom essay sample on Social Media and How It Effects Interpersonal Relationships or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This major transition to a media enveloped society has greatly affected youth so exponentially because they are permitted to have ââ¬Ëround the clock access and are provided with devices to access any information they desire with no difficulty. The main issue that children and teens face when using social networking sites is what is appropriate to make public on social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Many things such as addresses and pictures are made public to anyone searching for them. Most websites allow privacy settings and usually enact them automatically for minors. A person may accept a ââ¬Å"friend requestâ⬠from someone they have never met and this poses a major problem for the protection of the integrity of todayââ¬â¢s youth. A common problem that social networking sites face are the creation of fake profiles that are used to harass someone or to elicit illegal sexual activity. Creating an online profile that is fake to emotionally harm someone violates the terms and conditions set up by the social networking website. The creation of a fake online profile to verbally harm someone is thought by some people to violate the First Amendment because it is permitted to have freedom of speech but not to intentionally harm someone (Conan). Most people when signing up for a social media platform or other similar web based operating systems, are required to agree to the terms and conditions put in place by the siteââ¬â¢s directors. This contract that the user agrees to asks the user ââ¬Å"have you read and agree to the terms and conditionsâ⬠and by ticking the box you state that you have. The anwser to this question is commonly referred to as ââ¬Å"the biggest lie ever toldâ⬠. When signing the User Agreement one agrees to grant the site permission to analyze their personal information for purposes such as ad-tracking. Companies hold the terms in conditions they have set in place to be ââ¬Å"sacredâ⬠and this is because it helps to keep them removed from lawsuits. By doing this, the contract states, ââ¬Å"you automatically grant the Companyâ⬠¦. irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide licenseâ⬠¦. â⬠(Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada). Conversely, if the user does not agree to the companyââ¬â¢s terms and conditions then access will be denied to the user. What is put on the Internet is no longer intended to be private information. In todayââ¬â¢s society impressing our peers no longer pertains to academic or athletic ability but by how many followers a person has on ââ¬Å"Twitterâ⬠. This major switch from actual achievements to the ability to interest someone enough for them to click a button is incredibly drastic. The advances made in technology have made notable achievements less important by becoming a non-influential part of society. The advances that todayââ¬â¢s youth have made in their ability to self-educate and their ability to rely on peer-based learning are mainly enacted because of the advancement in technology. The people that are making these esoteric discoveries are people that desire the need for uncommon knowledge. Young people are educating themselves in esoteric subjects that require the desire for inside knowledge. These people are delving into different specialized subjects that exceed common knowledge and personal knowledge exchange. This affects how the technologically enveloped teen interacts with his or her peers by creating an allusion to something typically unknown. The expansion of the teens knowledge is generally positive but, their knowledge has the capacity to remove them from the typical social norm and cause them to be viewed as outcasts. The common threat of heavy internet use is the fact that some users may become so heavily dependent that they will take on a form of isolationism and will completely cut off all physically personal relationships. These online relationships that spark can lead to marriage and dating, sites such as eHarmony. om and ChristianMingle. com, for example, make an interface that provides an easier way to do this. The phenomenon of lying on internet profiles to seem more appealing has caused a social upsurgance. However, lying on internet profiles was most common in men but women had almost similar results except in the weight category where a womanââ¬â¢s capacity to lie alm ost always exceeded a manââ¬â¢s (Boyd). The common practice of lying on the internet has made people suspicious of others and has increased the amount of security they place around their personal information. Safety is a major concern for social networking sites that wish to stay out of hot water. Safety should always be looked at as a positive thing but for that change to be made because there was an incident that required an increase in precautions is a negative thing. The amount of safety used on the Internet should not be increased just because something bad happened to force that change. The television show ââ¬Å"Catfishâ⬠finds people that have relationships over social media sites and try to determine if they were actually the person they said the were. The majority of the time the person ââ¬Å"catfishingâ⬠could be of a different ethnicity, age, height, weight , other physical charachteristics, and even gender. The dangers of people thinking that because they are protected behind a computer sceen they are emotionally invisible, not only that but not responsible for their actions is a question of our societyââ¬â¢s morality. This example is exactly why social media should not replace physical interactions. The nuance between generations is not only noticeable in the actions performed by the younger generation but the predecessors as well. The undeniable fact that social media is now a global phenomen shows how greatly one web address can effect every single human being. Bibliography Blow, Charles M. Heres How to Make Non-Toxic Homemade Tattoo Ink
Here's How to Make Non-Toxic Homemade Tattoo Ink The earliest tattoo inks came from nature. You can use non-toxic natural ingredients to make your own homemade tattoo ink. One common tattoo ink recipe is simple and has been used in various forms for thousands of years. Its sometimes called wood ash ink,Ã carbon black tattoo ink, or a poke-and-stick tattoo. How to Make Tattoo Ink The earliest tattoo inks were prepared by mixing ashes from completely burned wood together with water. The wood ashes were nearly pure carbon, which yielded a black to brown tattoo. While carbon is the base for modern tattoo inks, its not a great idea to use water as the liquid to suspend the ink (the carrier). While a homemade tattoo ink may be prepared using sterile distilled water, poking the ink into the skin will force bacteria on the skin into the deeper layers. A non-toxic disinfectant, such as vodka, is a better choice. Vodka is a mixture of alcohol in water. Any other white alcohol, such as rubbing alcohol or tequila, will also work. Prepare the ink from: one cup carbon black ashes (completely burned wood)just enough vodka to create a slurry Prepare the ink by mixing the carbon black and vodka in a blender (15 minutes to an hour). If the mixture is too thin, add more carbon pigment. If the mixture is too thick, thin it with a little more vodka. It is best to prepare fresh homemade ink for each use, though the ink could be stored in a sealed container away from sunlight and blended again. Its a good idea to wear a mask and gloves when applying a tattoo to prevent the spread of infectious agents. The tattoo can be applied using a pin or quill that is dipped into the ink and poked into the skin. Notes About Wood and Paper Some people make this ink by burning wood in a heat-proof bowl. The advantage of using paper is that it produces fine carbon particles. The disadvantage is that some types of paper are treated with chemicals (e.g. heavy metals) that may remain in the ashes. If youre using wood, be aware youll get slightly different results depending on the species of wood you burn.If you know youll need multiple batches of ink to complete a tattoo, its a good idea to use the same source for the carbon each time and to keep track of how much ash and liquid youre using. Careful measurement will help ensure each batch has the same particle density, which translates into color intensity. Tattoo Ink Safety Notes While you can prepare your own ink and give yourself or a friend a tattoo, this is not a good idea for most people.Ã Professional inks are much more consistent in quality and safer to use, so they will give you better results with less chance of a reaction to the ink. Also, tattoo professionals are trained in aseptic techniques, so you will have much less chance of getting an infection or accidentally puncturing a blood vessel if you get your tattoo inked by a trained artist.
